JEDDAH – A Saudi female artist had recently won great acclaim for her exhibition dubbed “Sin and Forgiveness” at the Saudi Art Center in Jeddah, Al-Hayat daily reported. Fatimah Al-Nemer said the pieces of art displayed at the exhibition do not only represent Saudi or Arab women, but women in general. She gave the exhibition this name because it shows contradictions in society. “When a woman commits a sin in this society, she will be blamed and ostracized. But when a man does something wrong, he won't be reprimanded the same way. We all are humans and should be treated equally,” she said. Al-Nemer does her artwork using collage techniques. She fell in love with collage and honed her skills in the various techniques of this form of art. “I did the collage for the artwork displayed at the exhibition. I feel like this technique helps me express myself better.” Saudi plastic artist Abdullah Idris praised the young artist and her exhibition. Al-Nemer is planning to take her exhibition to several European countries. — SG
