This is in reference to the Local Viewpoint “A smile could do wonders” in Saudi Gazette (May 14). A smiling passport official —will it happen. What the writer observed in his article that a smile could do wonders is evident every day on every airport in the Kingdom. And why blame the Kingdom's passport officials only, I have seen the same behavior in New Delhi, in Bombay, in Islamabad, in Lahore and have heard similar stories about officials in American airports. Being understaffed does not give them license to be rude. The paying passengers should be treated with respect and courtesy whether you smile or not. Though a smile will be a real bonus.
