(L-R) Grace Funtilon, Sally Sa?osa, Mariz Resano and Eloisa Fernandez By Pip R. Planas JEDDAH — Archie Santos profusely propelled on the ultimate to be the men's champion, while Grace Funtilon guarded her prolific opening with two average games to be the queen at the end of the November Bowlfest 2012 conducted by the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group at the Bowling City here. Santos, one of the pioneers and an avid member of the FEDBG, skipped the semis and qualified third for the finals with well-secured 15-game series of 3,446 with a hi-game 247. Top qualifier Marcelo Manalo and second placed Bobby Baraquel recorded 3,523 and 3,456 with 261 and 265 hi-games respectively. Ruel Santoc won the Class B overall hi-game at 268, but failed the finalist cutoff at 3,366. Contentiously starting with 222, the highly reputed kegler was customarily in striking distance at sixth place behind cutoff early dwellers Manalo 248, Dariel Loquias 237, Tito Cruz 237, Class C top qualifier Rolly Vistal 232 and Baraquel 224. Santos slipped to 10th place with 404 to be four marks away from Vistal who grabbed the berth with his 440. Fresh faces over the border line were Jowet Carreon, Serge Rivera and Romy Bunagan who respectively pierced through with 431, 430 and 428 along with Loquias who sustained strife with 427. Santos then transformed the entire Bowling City into real championship arena when he started striking halfway of the ultimate game till his soft super loop personal patent framed him of 268 to be the consequential FEDBG-NBF 2012 men's champion at 3-game handicapped series of 672. Carreon dramatically clinched the bridesmaid honor on deadlock score of 654 with Manlo on rule of consistency at 9-76. Jun Estefano ranked fourth with 638 and Vistal saved fifth place at 635. In the women's division, Funtilon with 205 was at a shaky leadership when Letty Mendoza was at close threat of 203 in the initial game. Sally Sa?osa, Eloisa Fernandez and Mariz Resano were humbly contesting with 187, 164 and 160. With Mendoza shambled with splits and errors, Funtilon spaced better at 390-370 on 185 shielding as the other finalists hardly found their tracks. On the last lane transfer Sa?oza broke the jinx and rallied with 206. But this pursuit was good only for the second place as Funtilon fortified top post with 174 to be FEDBG-NBF 2012 women's champion at 564. Sa?oza placed behind with 559, Mendoza was third with 548, while Resano and Fernandez ranked fourth and fifth. Other women participants in this tournament were Nurissa Ramos, Imelda Sayago, Andrie Parena, Ester Santoc, Aisah Silabay and Minda Guevara.
