Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — An Indian expatriate, living illegally in the Kingdom and preparing to return home as part of the general amnesty, died of heart attack – apparently due to sheer joy of reunion with the family – just a day before his scheduled departure. As the amnesty is coming to an end and the dead body of the worker is still lying in hospital. Indian Embassy is working to repatriate it as soon as it receives documents from the family in India. Sangi Yellaih, 44 and a native of Jagtial district in the southern Indian state of Telangana, worked as a mason in Saudi Arabia for some time but lately was jobless as construction activities slowed down in the Kingdom. A father of two girls, Yellaih was concerned over their wedding expenses. He tried to find any odd job to survive and save some money but couldn't do so. He, therefore, decided to return home, according to family sources. It was not easy for Yellaih to leave the Kingdom and return home as his sponsor declared him an absconder and designated him as huroob to the Passports Department. Thus Yellaih's stay in the Kingdom became illegal. Yellaih desperately tried to return home by getting himself arrested, but all in vain as he was never apprehended during raids on find illegal workers, according to family sources. At this juncture, Yellaih breathed a sigh of relief as Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, announced the 90-day amnesty for all illegal expatriate workers to leave the Kingdom. Yellaih grabbed the opportunity with both hands and applied for travel document from Indian Embassy and obtained clearance for exit from Saudi passport authorities. He was overwhelmingly joyful to return home on May 29. However, he was found dead a day before at his accommodation on the outskirts of Riyadh city. Since then, Yellaih's body is lying in a mortuary in Riyadh. Police investigation and medical reports indicated that Yellaih died of heart attack. Official sources ruled out any no foul-play. Sheer joy or sadness can trigger a heart attack which is known as Takotsubo syndrome or TTS in medical terms. Indian Embassy is trying to send Yellaih's body back home after receiving required legal documents from the family, said sources.
