A competition to highlight the charity work of Gulf women was launched here recently by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in conjunction with the private sector. The winners will be chosen by public vote via the Internet and will be announced in Dubai on March 8, which coincides with International Women's Day. The competition is entitled, “Your inspiration fills the world”. It is in line with initiatives by the United Nations to empower women economically and socially. Dr. Aisha Abbas Natto, JCCI board member and the chairperson of the judge's panel, said the aim of the contest was to “highlight the achievements of women” which are often overlooked. “This contest forms part of the social responsibility initiatives of the private sector to ensure there is more organized and effective charity work in the region.” The other judges are Iqbal Al-Ahmad, a prominent Kuwaiti media personality and environmental activist, and Azza Al-Qubaisi, a jewelry designer from the United Arab Emirates. The winner will receive $10,000, with $5,000 each for those ending in second and third places. – SG __
