King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah has launched the country's first-ever Chair of Women's Health Rights. The new chair reflects the vision of Professor Osama Tayeb, the president of the university, to upgrade the standards of the institution. Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, chairwoman and founder of the chair, said: “It is a dream come true. The rights of women in my country is not only about the right to drive, it is about the right to healthcare, which is a basic and fundamental human right. Without their health, women are unable to carry out their tasks as mothers and spouses, and to meet the demands of their work.” Women and girls are entitled to proper care for breast or other types of cancer, and for reproductive and psychological issues, she added. The chair will be for three years and will see local and international partnerships formed on women's health issues. Al-Amoudi said this is in line with the call by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, to have world-class medical services for women in this country. Al-Amoudi is a member of a number of breast cancer awareness organizations in Saudi Arabia and other countries. She is the president of the Sheikh Mohammed Hussain Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence for Breast Cancer, which raises awareness of women's health rights in Islam, ensures access to breast screening services and promotes multidisciplinary breast cancer care. __
