Marleau powers Sharks past Avs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 22 - 11 - 2011

San Jose's Patrick Marleau had a hat trick to lead the Sharks to a 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL Sunday.
Goalie Thomas Greiss stopped 35 shots and Joe Pavelski also scored for the Sharks, who have won three straight.
Matt Duchene scored the sole goal for Colorado, which has won only three of 10 home games this season.
The Sharks controlled the play to start the second period and finally broke through on Marleau's second goal of the game with 12:20 left in the period to make it 2-1.
Pavelski one-timed Thorton's pass from behind the net to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead with 3:13 left in the second, and Marleau scored an empty netter with 43 seconds left for the hat trick.
Canucks 2, Senators 1, OT: In Vancouver, Chris Higgins scored 2:18 into overtime to lift Vancouver to victory over Ottawa.
Higgins went hard to the net in the extra session and deflected a Dan Hamhuis shot behind a startled Alex Auld for his seventh goal of the season.
Less than a minute prior to that, Ottawa's Erik Condra snuck behind the Vancouver defense and tipped a pass on goal, but Cory Schneider was in position for the save.
Henrik Sedin also scored for the Canucks while Colin Greening netted for the Senators.
Hurricanes 3, Maple Leafs 2: In Raleigh, North Carolina, Jeff Skinner had a goal and an assist for Carolina in the win over Toronto.
Jay Harrison and Jussi Jokinen also scored for the Hurricanes, who had been shut out in their two prior games.
Phil Kessel scored both goals for the Leafs, giving him an NHL-leading 16 goals and 29 points this season.
Red Wings 4, Ducks 2: In Anaheim, Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen and Brad Stuart staked Detroit to a three-goal lead, and the Red Wings held on to beat Anaheim.
Stuart had two goals, including an empty-netter he banked in off the right boards from the Detroit zone with 48 seconds to play to seal the win.
Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne scored for the Ducks, who have won only two of their past 15.
