Al-Qatif violence a betrayal of country
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 10 - 2011

The riot that injured 14 people in the village of Al-Awamiya near Al-Qatif was the act of people who have lost their conscience and betrayed their country by working as mercenaries for a foreign country.
The riot that harmed 11 security personnel and three civilians could not have happened without some hidden hands directing their agents to lead a motley group of people to sow violence and anarchy.
The rioters shot randomly and threw Molotov bombs, unwanted acts that disturbed the tranquility of the majority of the Al-Awamiya residents, without weighing the consequences.
It is sad that the provocateurs were able to exploit the ignorance of some citizens turning them into pawns who engaged in seditious acts aimed at harming their fellowmen and destabilizing the country.
Reports indicated that the troublemakers, who assembled at the Al-Reef Roundabout, tried to convince people to join them with assurances that no action would be taken against them.
The handful of people who participated in the mayhem should have known that their acts were seditious and could harm their own village as well as the peace that people enjoy in this country.
People should not be fooled by the manipulative scheming of those who were behind the violent incident as it will not do them any good but will only serve the insidious goals of those responsible for the civil disturbance.
As security authorities deal with the incident in the way they should, the people of Al-Qatif and other regions should stand as one against those spiteful mercenaries.
As for the mercenaries, they should decide whether to sell their souls to the foreign country that instigated them to sow mayhem or stay loyal to their own country.
The security authorities will always see to it that despite any disruption, they are always ready to defend the security and peace that the people of the Kingdom have enjoyed under the wings of the government over the years. __
